AVARA

Ayurveda

It begins with a conversation.

Nothing is chosen from a menu. A consultation comes first — the pulse, a few questions, notes taken by hand — and everything that follows is decided from that.

A practitioner in a timber-framed room taking a guest's pulse across a table, with a notebook, a clay cup and a brass bowl of fresh leaves, and the garden doors open behind them.

Treatments

Treatments are traditional Kerala therapies, given by hand with warm oil.

Abhyanga
Warm oil massage, worked in by hand
Shirodhara
A steady stream of warm oil across the forehead
Pizhichil
Warm oil poured slowly over the body

Which of these you’re offered comes out of the consultation, not a list you choose from beforehand.

An open-sided treatment room with a dark timber massage table, a hanging brass dhara pot, oil bottles and folded towels, laterite walls and palms visible through the open doors.

Where treatment happens

The room opens on two sides, to the garden and the wall around it. A single table, oils set out, and the dhara pot ready if the treatment calls for it.

Given by hand

The oil is warmed first, then worked in without hurry. Nothing here runs to a clock.

A handful of people on mats on the lawn at the water's edge, early, with their backs to the camera.

Movement, early

A handful of mats on the lawn at the water’s edge, before the day properly starts. Barefoot and unhurried, with the first boat already out.

Flat water at first light, a wooden canoe tied alongside a low jetty, the far bank still lost in mist.

Then, rest

The water is flat and the boat hasn’t moved yet. Whatever the morning held, there’s nowhere else it needs to go.

Ayurveda, as part of your stay.

Consultations and treatments are arranged once you’re here, around the rest of your stay. Mention it when you enquire and we’ll take it from there.
